Cristina Gavilan’s work exudes a tenderness and compassion. The artist creates her work as a song of praise, but also a protest. Her experiences of caring for abandoned and mistreated dogs has had a lasting effect on her artwork and Cristina uses her sculptures as a vehicle to campaign for animal welfare. The sculptures reflect her complete respect for animals, yet hold an underlying sadness at a sometimes cruel world around her.
Cristina’s sensitive, expressive and highly textural sculptures are primarily cast in bronze. The artist also works in aluminium and ceramic.
Cristina trained at art school in Tarragona, Spain and later specialised in sculpture at Westminster College, London. Cristina continues to cast her sculptures in Tarragona, exhibiting in both Spain and London. The artist also works to commission.
