Barry Cawston’s photography incorporates both sociological and architectural elements, with a clear contemporary edge. His skilfully constructed images project an understanding of landscape and figuration. The artist subliminally makes parallel visual connections between artists as diverse as Giotto, Piero della Francesca, Edward Weston and Andreas Gursky.
His artistic approach is based on a belief that there is an image somewhere that will serve as a metaphor for the idea he wishes to represent. Many images are narrative based and attempt to draw the viewer into their story, asking them to look again at the world around them.
Barry’s work has received wide acclaim, including awards from The Royal West of England Academy and The Royal Photographic Society. Public commissions include English Heritage and many international charities. Barry exhibits in Paris, London and throughout the UK. His work is also held in several notable private collections.
